Turns out I’m a city cat after all
Recently, my eyes have been opening to a lot of things. My approach is changing, I’m starting to ask myself questions and verify my views. I’ve written about this before anyway.
Recently I was shopping at Żabka and a thought came to me, I like this world filled with Żabkas. It doesn’t bother me.
I think for a long time I was putting it into my own head that I think life outside the city is better, that it’s what I prefer.
From the beginning of our marriage, we thought it would be nice to move out to a house. We talked about what it could look like. And sure, a house has its perks, lots of space inside, no neighbors, a garden. But there are downsides too. No public transport, you have to drive the kids everywhere. If you’re missing something for dinner, you won’t just go downstairs to the shop. The clinic is a few kilometers away. A walk… two roads crossing and around the house, because you won’t exactly wander through the forest with a stroller. I mean, obviously, where there’s a will there’s a way, there are carriers. But that’s not the point.
I’m thinking that city life suits me more. I like having a Żabka under the block, a park for walks, a gym nearby, a little market, buses and trams. I like walking to church, not having to load myself into the car for every single trip.
I started realizing that I’d been trying to convince myself I preferred that more wild kind of life, that forests and mountains, that’s the thing! But actually no. Turns out I’m a nasty city boy after all, and it’s time to admit it. This cat doesn’t hunt mice, it just nibbles leftovers from restaurant dumpsters. And I’m fine with that!
Kękę got me thinking, singing in “Cesarz”:
> I don’t plant trees, because I’m a man made of concrete > And I don’t know how to turn over soil > For that reason I’m not building a house, > a flat in a block is enough of a home for me
I listened to this a short while ago and thought, “Hey, I’m like that too! Maybe it’s no shame after all!”. So thanks, Piotrek! I learned something about myself thanks to you!
