I’m studying today for one of the Salesforce certification exams. I always struggle with this, because it’s kind of boring, a lot of obvious stuff, or stuff I vaguely know, but couldn’t say from memory where exactly you can configure what. But I can find out quickly, so I really don’t feel like learning it. Still, I do need to cram some of it if I want to get this certificate, and I do want to, because maybe it’ll help me get a promotion or a better job someday. Or once I get these basic certificates done, I’ll start studying for some harder ones that won’t be so boring anymore.
Maybe it’s good practice in engaging with things I don’t exactly feel like doing, but still need to do.
To make studying a bit more pleasant and have a little fun with it, I’m studying using two iPads. On J.’s iPad 9 I opened the PDF I’m learning from, and on my mini 5 I’m taking notes and making a mind map. Man, the thought that this is a whim is really bothering me. That I’m inventing little games instead of simply studying on the computer and taking notes on paper. That’s how it’s done, after all. That’s how I would’ve done it at school, where I wouldn’t have had two iPads, and even if I had, nobody would’ve let me use them. I’d like to drill into my head that doing something in a non-standard way, but one that makes me happy, is okay, but it’s not going easily. My inner critic says it’s still made-up nonsense, a whim, and that I should do it normally. I even know whose voice it speaks in.
