(this sounds more fun in Polish)

My wife calls most of the furniture in our house “a cabinet”, and usually, when she tells me where something is, she just says “in the cabinet”, without specifying which cabinet she means. Or even which room. In the kitchen alone we have 9 cabinets, and there are cabinets in Ida’s room, in the bathroom, and in our bedroom too. She also calls a wardrobe a cabinet. For example, she tells me to check whether something is in the cabinet, so I search through 3 pieces of furniture that I think of as cabinets, and then she gets annoyed that I didn’t search the wardrobe.

— Where is this and that? — I ask. — Here, in the cabinet.

I start rummaging through the nearest cabinet.

— Not that one, the one in the kitchen, under the oven.

If I ever murder her in the heat of passion, her last words will probably be describing the location of something as “in the cabinet”.

I managed to change the brake light bulb in the Opel. Nice. Now I need to get myself together to replace the oil filter. Maybe I’ll do it tomorrow. For now the weather is really nice, so we’re going for a walk in the park.

Today I was very tired all day, despite a long sleep and two coffees. But I got quite a lot done.

I’m planning to make myself a database in Airtable, where I’ll keep various data about myself so I can analyze it later. I mean things like sleep duration, weight, physical exercise, books read, time on my phone, mood, intermittent fasting, etc. Something like quantified self.

Today was a very busy day for me, but in a really satisfying way. I cleaned quite a lot around the apartment, vacuumed, mopped the floors, not to mention making dinner together with J. and washing the dishes, and at the end I replaced the bathroom blind with a new one. Another overdue thing. No need to write more about it, I'm just really happy with all the work I did.

Today Młodsza had her Baptism, in the same place where Młoda had hers a year ago. I don’t really feel like getting into this topic too much here. Roughly speaking, everything worked out. In the end I was actually happy, and lately I’ve been allergic to family parties.

I’m surprised I’m only writing this today, because yesterday I had plenty of time while I was lying in bed all day. But I’m lazy and couldn’t be bothered. The story is that yesterday morning I was feeding Młoda, and since I’m sick I started coughing… and messed up something in my back. I shuffled back to bed with J.’s help. And after that I only got out of it twice to pee. It was hard for me to turn over or move, let alone get up. Basically, it was bad.

This morning my in-laws came over. My father-in-law is a masseur and came to help me. It turned out that while I was coughing, my fifth lumbar vertebra shifted and didn’t go back into the right position. Instead, it was pressing on the disc, which squeezed the whole nerve. The back massage was actually pretty pleasant, but massaging out the buttock turned out to be worse, which was necessary because the crooked vertebra also caused some issue with blood flow to the hips, or legs, or whatever… In any case, it was very unpleasant. Along the way I discovered that I get similar pain in the same buttock more often, it’s just rarely that intense. I’m not supposed to sit with one leg crossed over the other or with one leg tucked under me, so I don’t twist my spine like that. We’ll see how that goes, because I sit a lot, and I’ve had those habits for a long time.

J. went out today for the first time for a walk with both girls. Młodsza was just hanging out in the wrap, and Młoda was napping in the stroller. It turned out really nice. The girls were happy, J. was proud of herself and happy too. The weather was great as well, so that walk was definitely something to be jealous of.

I’m sitting at home sick. I have a bad cough. Yesterday was the worst, every movement triggered a coughing reflex, to the point that my muscles hurt from it. In the evening I took a hot bath, which on the one hand was annoying because I had to keep wiping my face every few moments, but on the other hand, for that half an hour I didn’t feel like coughing at all… Wonderful.

Absolutely beautiful weather. We’re spending the first day of these holidays at my parents’, the second at my in-laws’. We went to the noon Mass at church and it was probably the nicest Mass with Młoda so far. Młodsza slept through the whole Mass, and Młoda, although she played a lot, didn’t run away or bother people. She was very joyful. At the key moments I would dig her out from between the columns of the catafalque and take her closer to the altar, because lately I noticed she’s learning to kneel and fold her hands, so I was showing her when to do it and explaining what was happening. Teaching her still gives me a lot of satisfaction.

I haven’t written about this yet, but lately I often think that it would be nice to have more children. I’m delighted with our little daughters and I wouldn’t mind having more of these little miracles. Both of them bring me a lot of joy. Maybe when I go back to work it’ll get harder and it’ll turn out that in practice we don’t have enough strength to take care of a larger number of kids, but either way I wanted to preserve this thought. Młoda and Młodsza are wonderful and I love them very much.

Today is Good Friday. We’re not going to church because, first, we’re kind of not managing to get ourselves together, and second, we still don’t want to go out for that long with Młodsza into cold places. And suddenly my cough is getting worse and worse, for some reason. But unlike yesterday, we’ll try and take part in the liturgy online. I’ll dress nicely. I’m still kind of standing with one foot on each side when it comes to faith, but I’ll try to at least do properly what I’m doing, even if it’s an online liturgy.

I’m studying today for one of the Salesforce certification exams. I always struggle with this, because it’s kind of boring, a lot of obvious stuff, or stuff I vaguely know, but couldn’t say from memory where exactly you can configure what. But I can find out quickly, so I really don’t feel like learning it. Still, I do need to cram some of it if I want to get this certificate, and I do want to, because maybe it’ll help me get a promotion or a better job someday. Or once I get these basic certificates done, I’ll start studying for some harder ones that won’t be so boring anymore.

Maybe it’s good practice in engaging with things I don’t exactly feel like doing, but still need to do.

To make studying a bit more pleasant and have a little fun with it, I’m studying using two iPads. On J.’s iPad 9 I opened the PDF I’m learning from, and on my mini 5 I’m taking notes and making a mind map. Man, the thought that this is a whim is really bothering me. That I’m inventing little games instead of simply studying on the computer and taking notes on paper. That’s how it’s done, after all. That’s how I would’ve done it at school, where I wouldn’t have had two iPads, and even if I had, nobody would’ve let me use them. I’d like to drill into my head that doing something in a non-standard way, but one that makes me happy, is okay, but it’s not going easily. My inner critic says it’s still made-up nonsense, a whim, and that I should do it normally. I even know whose voice it speaks in.
