(this sounds more fun in Polish)
My wife calls most of the furniture in our house “a cabinet”, and usually, when she tells me where something is, she just says “in the cabinet”, without specifying which cabinet she means. Or even which room. In the kitchen alone we have 9 cabinets, and there are cabinets in Ida’s room, in the bathroom, and in our bedroom too. She also calls a wardrobe a cabinet. For example, she tells me to check whether something is in the cabinet, so I search through 3 pieces of furniture that I think of as cabinets, and then she gets annoyed that I didn’t search the wardrobe.
— Where is this and that? — I ask. — Here, in the cabinet.
I start rummaging through the nearest cabinet.
— Not that one, the one in the kitchen, under the oven.
If I ever murder her in the heat of passion, her last words will probably be describing the location of something as “in the cabinet”.
