Postbirth

Postbirth in the title is written together because that’s what I called this period. I don’t mean the postpartum period, just those few days right after the birth. So there’s no mistake, just so you know.

As you can probably guess, we managed to give birth to a healthy and beautiful baby girl. For the purposes of this blog, we’ll call her Młodsza.

The birth was great, and that’s not just my opinion, but also J.’s, who really wanted a natural birth. The staff were split on whether a C-section was needed or not, but in the end the “natural” faction won and J., after a long fight and supported by our doula friend, gave birth without having her belly cut open. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever seen such intensity of emotion on her face: happiness and being moved. That makes the memory of this birth stay with me even longer, especially since it was the first time I could be with her until the end. When she was giving birth to Młoda, I saw her before the C-section, and then only again at discharge. Lousy pandemic conditions.

Now we’re sitting together at home and getting used to things. Unfortunately, we’re also sick, especially me and Młoda. J. has a runny nose. Only Młodsza is bravely holding up. But it’s okay.

Because of the hospital, I had a bit of a break from blogging, but I want to get back to it. These daily summaries give me a lot, they let me look at life from a different, narrative perspective. Even if nobody reads it afterwards.
